Wolf Management Exchange Project |
Boojum Expeditions and The Alex Lowe Charitable Foundation are soliciting tax-deductible donations to rebuild a system of safety or "warming" huts along the three migration routes. The migration is always treacherous, but when weather turns especially foul or if someone is injured during the migration it can pose great danger to the herders. Years ago, there was a system of simple huts; log cabins with a wood stove and a corral for the herds of cattle, sheep, goats, camels and horses where herders could take shelter. Bringing back three of those huts along the three pathways of the migration will enhance the safety and security of the migrating herders and their families. And in the summertime, when tourists are using those same routes to discover the beauty of the Darhad and the hospitality of the local people, the huts will serve as seasonal ranger stations to enhance the safety and comfort of travelers, Mongolian or foreign. The budget for three cabins, analagous to our US Forest Service, cabins is $750 dollars per cabin and will include a sturdy wood burning stove, basic furniture, a corral and pit toilet. Boojum Expeditions has pledged to match, dollar for dollar, the donations made towards this project by readers of National Geographic. Your donations are tax-deductible when your check is made to: Darhad Migration Huts / ALCF. Please mail your donations to: ALCF POB 6666, Bozeman, MT
